BTS Acquires New Transportation Vehicle for Spay and Neuter Services

The City of Tallahassee and the Animal Shelter Foundation help BTS bring Spay and Neuter Services to the Community

TALLAHASSEE – Be The Solution, Inc. (BTS), will receive its first fleet vehicle to assist in the transportation of dogs and cats for spay and neuter surgeries from the City of Tallahassee (COT) and the Animal Shelter Foundation on Wednesday, October 16.  The city donated half the value of their surplus Animal Control van and the Animal Shelter Foundation picked up the other half of the cost for the $9,750 purchase.   Be The Solution, Inc. assumes all remaining financial responsibility for the vehicle to include annual operational, upkeep, and personnel costs estimated to be approximately $80,000.  The new BTS initiative is also receiving assistance from Competition Paint and Body; the company will offer their towing services to transport the vehicle for minor cosmetic repairs.

BTS will have fixed at least 2,500 pets by the end of 2013.  The acquisition of the new vehicle marks a considerable service expansion for the BTS non-profit organization beginning in January.  BTS Founder Gerry Phipps said, “ Our goal is to fix 4,000 pets in 2014 by continuing the voucher program offered at the BTS store and by adding the extra pets altered through the van.”  The current voucher program is available at the BTS store located in the Tallahassee Mall.  The new mobile project will cater to target areas in Tallahassee where pet overpopulation has provided the largest number of strays and unwanted animals to the Animal Service Center.  The BTS van will pick up companion animals from residents and then transport them to local area veterinary hospitals for surgery and then return the pets to their owners.

The new BTS vehicle needs a name and we are asking the public to help us brand the van!  You can vote by liking us on Facebook and selecting your name choice or by going to www.bethesolution.us and selecting BTS Mobile Van from the About Us drop-down menu and following the directions on our page.  BTS will announce the winning name in November on our website and through social media.

Be The Solution, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization devoted to ending pet overpopulation in the Tallahassee area.  BTS educates area residents about the benefits of having their pets spayed or neutered and provides financial assistance to those who cannot otherwise afford the surgery cost.  BTS has helped fix 7,659 pets between the program’s founding in 2007 through September 2013.
